PREWAR LIONEL 1688 DIE CAST STREAMLINED  STEAM LOCOMOTIVE & 1689W TENDER
LOT DESCRIPTION:
As the title says this lot consists of a Prewar gunmetal gray Lionel 1688, 2-4-2, Die Cast Streamlined Steam Locomotive with the 1689W whistle  tender that was made in the late 1930s. The locomotive has a operating headlight, and a three position e-unit and the tender has  a latch coupler. Both pieces are all original Pre War Lionel including all original paint with no paint touchups.
DESCRIPTION OF CONDITION:
The locomotive and tender are both in nice shape. The loco casting is perfect, no breaks, cracks or chips. Both classification lights are fine as are all the boiler attachments and wheels. No rust or missing parts, great color, number-letter side plates nice.  Minor rubs on the loco body and the left side of the loco has some adhesion problems with the original paint.  The tender looks nice, no rust or dents,  lettering crisp and clear, trucks and coupler fine, typical playwear scratches mostly on the tender ends.   Again, a nice  looking set that IMHO I would rate as in C-6, very good condition but look at the pictures and you be the judge for the pictures are an important part of the description and say more than my words ever can.
WORKING CONDITION:
I have cleaned lubed and tested the locomotive and it runs and reverses just fine , e-unit too cycles fine, and the whistle on the tender also works.
